Vanir

The Vanir (the Wanes) were a race of fertility-deities. Their home was in heaven and called Vanaheim.

The Vanir were an older race of gods than the Aesir.

They were best known for their war against the Aesir.

The members of the race of the Vanir were:

• Njörd, the ruler of Vanaheim
• Nerthus, the mother of the Vanir
• Freyja, goddess of love
• Freyr, god of light
• Gullveig/Heid, goddess of the gold
• Idun, goddess of the youth
• Kvasir, wisest of the gods
• Sif, fertility-goddess
