Valhalla ("Palace of the Slain") was Odin's palace, that stood in Gladsheim, Asgard. Its outer gate was called Valgrind.
By its western door there hung a wolf and over it an eagle hovered.
Valhalla was the place where the Einherjar, the warrriors that died honorable in battle, drank and fought till the last battle (Ragnarok).
"Five hundred doors | and forty there are,
I ween, in Valhall's walls;
Eight hundred fighters | through one door fare
When to war with the wolf they go."
(Grímnismál)
