Skadi ("Damage") a giantess. Later she became the goddess of the hunt and the ice.
Once, her father Thjazi kidnapped Idun (the goddess of eternal youth) and the gods went old.
But Loki managed Idun's rescue and brought her back to Asgard, where the gods then killed the giant, who followed them.
After Thjalzi's death, Skadi went to Asgard to take revenge. But the gods didn't want to fight with her and offered her two gifts: she could take one of the gods as husband; and the second gift was making her laugh.
She was allowed to choose a husband, only by seeing his feet.
In the hope to get Baldr, she chose the most beautiful feet (these of Njörd).
With him, she was (propably) the mother of Freyr and Freyja.

The marriage with Njörd was not a vera good idea, she doesn't wanted to live at Noatun in the sea, but her mountain-palace was too cold for the Aesir. First, they had a deal, they slept nine nights in the mountains and three in the sea, but finally the marriage was broken and Skadi took a new husband (Ull).
After Ull, she was wife of Odin and bore him many children. One of them was King Säming from Norway, ancestor of the principality of Halogaland.

Her hall called Thrymheim ("The Home of Thrym"), which was first her father's hall.

She was the goddess, that, after Baldr's death, fixed the snake above Loki's head.

Maybe Scandinavia was called after Skadi.

Skadi's also the name of one of Saturn's moons.
