Sol

Sol ("Sun") or Alfrothul ("the Elf-Beam") was the sun.

She was the daughter of the giant Mundilfari ("The Turner"?) and sister of Mani ("Moon"). The children of Mundilfari were very beautiful and this was the reason why he called them Sun and Moon. But the gods were very angry and foced the children to across the sky.

Sol was married to Glen and bore a daughter before she was swallowed by the Skalli.

The sun's horses called Arvakr and Allsvinn and the wolf that's always hunting them was called Skalli.

The name elf-beam comes from the fact that sunrays were fatal to elves and Dwarves.

"The sun, the sister | of the moon, from the south
Her right hand cast | over heaven's rim;
No knowledge she had | where her home should be,
The moon knew not | what might was his,
The stars knew not | where their stations were."
(Völuspá)

"Sunday" ("Sun's Day") was named after her.
