Norns

There were minor Norns:

"Most sundered in birth | I say the Norns are;
They claim no common kin:
Some are of Æsir-kin, | some are of Elf-kind,
Some are Dvalinn's daughters."

Hárr said: "Good norns and of honorable race appoint good life; but those men that suffer evil fortunes are governed by evil norns."

(Gylfaginning XV)

And the three major Norns.

The most famous Norns were the three giantesses, that lived in a hall near the ash Ygdrasil and the Urd's Well. They went everyday out their hall and sprinkled the well's water over the ash's root.

The three norns were:
- Urd ("Past" or "Destiny")
- Verdandi ("Present")
- Skuld ("Future")

"Thence come the maidens | mighty in wisdom,
Three from the dwelling | down 'neath the tree;
Urth is one named, | Verthandi the next,--
On the wood they scored,-- | and Skuld the third.
Laws they made there, and life allotted
To the sons of men, and set their fates."
(Völuspá)

Old Norse: Nornir
