Mimir

1. a water-spirit
2. Regin's brother

1.
Mimir ("The Murmuring"), sometimes called Mim, was a water-spirit (or maybe a giant, or a vanir) and one of the wisest beings. Mimir was the guardian of the Mimir's-Born, the well that gave wisdom to everyone, who drank its water.
Once Odin came to the well and asked Mimir for the water of wisdom. Mimir gave him the permission, but only in exchange for one of Odin's eyes.

One assumption is that Mimir was the son of Bolthorn and in this way uncle of Odin and that Mimir (as the son of Bolthorn) teached Odin the nine songs.

Mimir was everyday drinking and pourin' the well's water on Ygdrasil.

After the Aesir-Vanir war, Mimir was sent to the Vanir, but they cut off his head and sent him back to the Aesir. Odin then embalmed the head and, with magic, gave him back his speech.

2. Mimir was also the name of Regin's brother.
