Heimdall

Heimdall ("Light-Shining"), the guardian of the gods, was the son of nine mothers, the "Billow Maidens" and Odin.

He had a horse called Gulltoppr ("Gold-Top") and the horn Gjallarhorn ("Shrieking Horn"), with which he'll announce the beginning of Ragnarok.

Heimdall was the guardian of the rainbow Bifröst, the only passage from Midgard to Asgard, where he watched the comming of the giants.

He lived by the southern end of Asgard, near Bifröst, in the hall Himinbjorg, often called Heaven's Cliffs.

In the Rigsthula he has the function as the father of mankind:
See Poetic Edda: Rigsthula - The Song of Rig

Rigsthula:
Rig (=Heimdall) was on a journey and came to a house, where there lived Ai ("Great Grandfather") and Edda ("Great Grandmother). He staid there for three nights and then continued his journey. After Rig was gone, Edda became pregnant and bore a son ("Thraell" = "Slave").
The next place he arrived, there were Afi ("Grandfather") and Amma ("Grandmother"). He staied there for three nights and then went away.
Amma became pregnant and bore him a son named Karl ("Yeoman").
The third house he entered was inhabited by Fathir ("Father") and Mothir ("Mother"). After three nights he went away and Mothir became pregnant. The son, she bore Rig was called Jarl ("Nobly-Born").

Another adventure of Heimdall was, when he brought Freyja her necklace.

At Ragnarok, he'll fight Loki and both of them will die.

Heimdall was also known as Rig, Gullintanni ("Gold-Toothed"), Vindler ("Winder") and Hallinskídi ("Ram").
