Hlidskjalf |
Hlidskjalf ("Gate-Seat") was Odin's seat, from which he could sea all the worlds. Frigg was the only one, who was permissed to stand at Odin's side, when he sat on Hlidskjalf. Hlidskjalf was situated in a hall called Valaskjalf ("Seat or Shelf of the Slain"). At the beginning of the Grimnismol Odin sat on the seat and made his wanger with his wife Frigg. Once, Freyr sat on the Hlidskjalf and looked into the world of the giants, where he saw a fair woman, with the name Gerd. He immediately fell in love with her and sent one of his servants (Skirnir) to her house.
