Hild was one of the Valkyries that rode to the ranks of the gods and bear the beer to the Einherjar.

Shields were called after Hild:
- Wall of Hildr
- Wheel of Hildr

Hild was the daughter of King Hogni and wife of his enemy King Hedinn.
She was said to be a Valkyrie and skilled in magic.
The famous war between the Kings was called *Hjadnings' Strife*. At day the kings fought, but in the night, when they retourned to their ships, Hildr came to the battle-place and resuscitated the slain with magic.
The next days they fought again and again, all the weapons and all the men that died turned to stone, but at dawn all the fallen uprose and the weapons were renewed.
