Gjöll

Old Norse: Gjöll
Meaning: "Noisy"

1. the entry of Niflheim, or a rock
2. a stream

1.
Gjöll was the entry of Niflheim (or maybe the rock, on which Garm was curted), in front of Gjöll was Gnipahellir, guarded by the hell-hound Garm.

2.
Gjöll was one of the Elivagar's streams, floating out the well Hvergelmir. The deceased must cross the river, to come to Niflheim. The only passage through the river was Gjöll's Bridge, which was guarded by a maiden called Modgudr.

Gjöll was the "River Styx" of the norse mythology.
