Freyja ("woman" or "mistress") was the goddess of love, luck, fertility and of spring.

She was the daughter of the giantess Skadi and the god Njoerd and wife of her brother Freyr.
Sometimes she was said to be the daughter of Njörd and his sister Nerthus.
Another husband of her was Odr (maybe Odin). When Odr left her, Freyja searched him in unknown lands, weeping golden tears (see Amber), but she never found him.

She was the owner of the Brisingamen (for more info click Here).

By Odr she was the mother of Hnoss and Gersemi.

Ottar was the name of Freyja's lover, whom she changed into a boar.

After the Aesir-Vanir-War she came to Asgard and became Odin's wife (mistress) and chief of the Valkyries.

The Valkyries took the warriors, died honourable in battle with them and brought one half to Valhalla and the other half to Folkvang.

Her palace called Folkvang ("field of folk") and her hall Sessrymnir ("Rich in Seats").

Other names of Freyja:
- Gefn
- Horn
- Mardoll
- Syr
- Vanadis

She was often confused with Odin's wife Frigg.

Maybe the "Friday" was called after the beautiful goddess of love.
