Fylgia

Fylgia ("Following" or "Follower").

Guardian spirit of norwegian folklore. It was the soul or guardian of an individual.

The Fylgia appeared in dreams, in form of an animal. If someone saw the Fylgia awake, it was a sign for his imminent death.
At the point of death, the Fylgia passed to another member of his family.
