Eir

Old Norse: Eir
Meaning: "Mercy"? or "Kindly"?

1. an asynjur
2. menglod's handmaid
3. a valkyrie

1.

Eir was the goddess of health, medicine and a maidservant of Frigg.

Snorri calls her one of the Asyjur and an extremely good physician.

The rune Nauthiz was dedicated to Eir.

In the Skáldskaparmál there's a Valkyrie with the name Eir (see below), but I found no connenction to the goddess.

Prose Edda: Gylfaginning XXXV

2.
Eir was one of Menglod's handmaids.
The other eight named Blidur, Hlif, Hlifthrasa, Blid, Bjort, Thjothvara, Frirth and Aurbotha.

Poetic Edda: Fjölsvinnsmál

3.
The Valkyrie Eir appeares in a listing at the end of Snorri's Skáldskaparmál. Maybe she's the goddess, but I'm not sure.
She and the other Valkyries are called Norns who shape necessity.

Prose EddaNafnaþulur XXVI
