Drofn

According to Snorri, Drofn was the daughter of Aegir and Ran and by Odin one of Heimdall's mothers.

(Drofn is also listed as the name of a river.)

She was replaced by Bara in the list of the Skáldskaparmál’s Sjávarkenningar (kennings of the sea).

Dröfn, sem Ormr kvað:
Hrosta drýgur hvern kost
hauk lúðrs gæiþrúðr,
en drafnar loga Lofn
löstu rækir vinföst.
(“Foam-Fleck, as Ormr sang:
The hawk-like, heedful Lady
Has every virtue: Lofn
Of the Foam-Fleck‘s flame-gold, faithful
As a friend, all faults renounceth.”
Prose Edda: Skáldskaparmál LXXVI, translated by Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur)
