Dan

Dan or Danum was the name of a legendary danish king, ancestor of the Danes and creator of the kingdom of Denmark. Perhaps son of Dana and grandson of Danp.
In the Skjöldungasaga he married Olof, daughter of Wermund.

“Á Danr ok Danpr
dýrar hallir,
œðra óðal
en ér hafið;
þeir kunnu vel
kjóli at ríða,
egg at kenna,
undir rjúfa.”

(“The halls of Dan | and Danp are noble,
Greater their wealth | than thou hast gained;
Good are they | at guiding the keel,
Trying of weapons, | and giving of wounds.”

Poetic Edda: Rígsþula, translated by Henry Adams Bellows; Skjöldasaga)

After this stanza the manuscript of the Rígsþula brakes abruptly.

Old Norse: Danr
Meaning: "Dane"
