Borghild

Borghild from Bralund was Sigmund's first wife and mother of Helgi and Hamund.

The Frá Dauða Sinfjötla tells how Sinfjotli, son of Sigmund and his sister Sigyn, killed Borghild's brother (a few editions inserted falsely Borgar as his name). She wanted vengeance, but had to accept the atonement-money which king Sigmund offered her.
To avenge her brother she gave Sinfjotli a horn full with poison, but when the latter looked into the horn, he saw that it was poisened and gave it to his father Sigmund. Sigmund drank it (he was so hardy that it couldn't harm him). Borghild bore Sinfjotli another poisoned horn and he gave it again to Sigmund. The third time he wanted to gave the horn to his father, Sigmund gave it back to his son. Sinfjotli drank it and died immediately.

Sigmund lived long time in Bralund after he had married her.
In Helgaviða Hundingsbana I & II she's mentioned only at the beginning of the stories as being the mother of Helgi.

Later Sigmund went home to the land of the Franks, where he married Hjordis and fathered Sigurd.
