The giant Baugi was the son of Gilling and brother of Suttun.
When he learned that his nine thraells killed one another, he engaged Bolverk (Odin in disguise). During the summer Bolverk made the work for nine, but when the winter came, he wished the Odrörir as payment.
Baugi declared that he had no control over the poetic mead, but went to Suttung and asked him for a drink of the Odrörir, which Suttung refused him.
Then Bolverk gave Baugi the auger Rati, with which the latter must bore the rock. When Baugi finished his work, Bolverk turned himself into a serpent and disappeard in the hole.
Baugi trod to kill the serpent with the auger, but missed him.
