Asgard

Asgard, the "home of the Aesir", was one of the nine worlds, connected by the world tree Ygdrasil. Asgard had two halls called Valhalla and Folkvang and the plain Idavoll, there the gods assemble in the hall of Gladsheim and the goddesses in the hall of Vingolf. Also located in Asgard was the Well of Urd, where the gods met daily.

Its ruler was the chief god Odin, who could see all the world from his throne Hlidskialf in the centre of Asgard and Asgards guardian was Heimdall, the protector of the Aesir.

The rainbow Bifröst was the only passage from Midgard to Asgard and thr river Ifing divided Asgard and Jötunheim, the realm of the giants.

Asgard was builded by a master builder and his stalllion Svadilfari. As payment he wanted Freyja as his wife and the sun and the moon. The Aesir agreed, the only condition was, that he had to finish his work until six month. When the walls of Asgard were more or less finished, Loki transformed himself into a mare and seduced the stallion. In this way the man doesn't finished his work in six month. He became angry, the Aesir recognized him as a giant and Thor immediatly killed him.

After the seduction of Svadilfari, Loki became pregnant (as a mare) and bore Sleipnir.
