Alvis

Alvis ("All-Knowing"), was a dwarf who was promised Thrud (in return for the weapons he forged for the gods).

When Alvis came to Thor's hall, he challenged the dwarf to a test of knowledge. Alvis had to know the names for different things in the language of the Alfr, Dwarfs, Gods, etc.
Thor prolonged the test until sunrise, when the rays of the sun fell upon Alvis, he immediately turned to stone.
